What can I expect from my teeth whitening journey?

Your initial appointment

Your first visit to us will be used to assess the type and severity of staining that your teeth have, and whether Zoom whitening will be effective. Your whitening expert will also check that you are a suitable candidate for treatment.

Custom trays will be created

Impressions of your teeth will be taken which will be used to create bespoke whitening trays. Customised whitening trays fit better, ensuring even coverage of the bleaching and minimising the risk of any it leaking out onto the gums and other soft tissues.

Start whitening

Zoom can be carried out in practice, or you can be provided with the trays and bleaching agent and given instructions to perform the whitening process at your own convenience at home. You may be recommended to have an appointment with our hygienist for a comprehensive professional dental clean before you begin treatment. This helps to remove any areas of plaque or tartar that could compromise your results. Follow the instructions provided using the gels for two weeks, and you’ll start to see a whiter smile in just three days.

How does teeth whitening work?

Dental staining and discolouration are extremely common and can occur for a variety of different reasons.

These include smoking and consuming food and drinks that contain tannins (like coffee, red wine and berries). The inner layers of the teeth also darken with age, causing teeth to appear duller and look older.

The teeth whitening process is very straightforward. The whitening agent, which contains hydrogen peroxide, is placed into the bespoke trays which are then inserted over your teeth and left in place. The whitening gel then gets to work breaking down stains into progressively smaller pieces until they disappear altogether. The process takes place over a number of separate appointments until the teeth appear as white as possible. It is usually painless, stress-free and there is no downtime, meaning that you can go back to your usual activities virtually immediately following your appointment.

commonly asked questions about

Teeth whitening in Ealing

  • Why is Zoom whitening better than over the counter whitening products?

There are many over the counter products that claim to be able to whiten teeth. However, those that contain the highest levels of bleaching agent are only available via your dentist. Over the counter products generally require consistent use and provide mediocre and short-lived results.

  • How many sessions of teeth whitening will I need?

Professional teeth whitening uses higher strength bleaching agent, and this normally delivers faster results than over the counter alternatives. With Zoom whitening at home, patients wear their whitening trays for two weeks to achieve optimal results. If you choose to have treatment at home, the number of sessions you will need will depend on how light you wish your teeth to be. Zoom whitens teeth by an average of six to eight shades.

  • Is teeth whitening safe?

Provided it is carried out by trained and experienced professionals, teeth whitening is extremely safe. Our expert cosmetic dentists have extensive experience in performing Zoom whitening and achieving excellent results, and the bespoke trays used in Zoom help to keep bleaching agent on the teeth and away from the soft tissues of your mouth. Zoom whitening has also been found to cause less sensitivity than other tooth whitening systems.

  • How can I maintain my results?

You’ll be keen to maintain the results of your teeth whitening treatment for as long as possible, and our expert cosmetic dentistry team will provide you with the information that you need to do this. Some of the guidance that you will be given will include stopping smoking, avoiding food and drinks that contain tannins, and following a robust oral hygiene routine.

  • I’m ready to get started, what happens next?
